Expectation Doesn't Need an Audience to Hold Up

Expectation Doesn't Need an Audience to Hold Up

You asked for something to move into the space you opened yesterday. Today's the part that tests whether you actually meant it: the waiting.

A Misconception About What Waiting Requires

Here's an assumption a lot of people carry into a hard wait: that you need other people's sympathy to keep believing, or that you have to eventually prove the outcome before you're allowed to keep hoping for it.

"Waiting For" pushes directly against that: "You can't see it now, but I believe in the bigger things coming down to me, it's just something that I'm waiting for. If it's breaking down, I don't need any sympathy, it's no mystery, it's just something that I'm waiting for."

Confidence That Doesn't Need a Crowd

Notice what the song refuses: sympathy. Not because sympathy is bad, but because this kind of expectation isn't dependent on anyone else agreeing it makes sense. "I know what it feels to lose it... I know the mountains that I'm moving, and I don't ever have to prove it." You don't need an audience to validate what you're expecting — you just need to keep expecting it.

What Hebrews Calls This

Hebrews 11:1 names exactly this posture: "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." Confidence and assurance, both — about something unseen. That's not naivety. That's the actual definition of faith the whole chapter goes on to illustrate.

Enduring vs. Expecting

There's a real difference between gritting your teeth through a wait and actually expecting something good on the other side of it. "Always dreaming big, never change that. You can strike me down but I'm coming back." That's not endurance. That's expectation that keeps getting back up — not because it's been proven right yet, but because it doesn't need to be, to keep standing.
