He Doesn't Come Because You Called Right

He Doesn't Come Because You Called Right

Yesterday the tears came before the words. Today, a word finally comes — and it's just His name.

Not a polished prayer. Not a list. Just His name, the way you'd call out for someone in the dark when you're not sure what else to say.

The Case Against Calling

Most people who haven't called in a while have built a quiet case for why God might take His time with them. I waited too long. I only call when it's bad. I haven't been faithful enough lately to expect a fast answer. The misconception underneath all of it is that God's response is measured by the quality of the call — how often you've called, how well you've prayed, how much you've earned.

So the call gets delayed. You wait until you've pulled yourself together enough to call properly. And the longer you wait, the stronger the case against calling gets.

Every Time, Everywhere

"Call God" dismantles that case in a single line: "Every time I call Your name, You come running."

Every time. Not every time you called on a good day, or every time you called after a stretch of faithfulness. And the song is specific about where the calling happens: "I call God on the mountain, I call God in the valley, I call God on the good days, I call God when the enemy surrounds me."

The valley counts. The day the enemy surrounds you counts. The call you make only because it's bad still counts. "I call God and He answers."

In Truth, Not in Polish

Psalm 145:18 makes the same promise: "The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth." Notice the qualifier. Not "to all who call on him eloquently." Not "to all who call on him often enough." In truth — honestly, as you actually are.

Jesus told a story about this. In Luke 15, a son who'd wasted everything comes home rehearsing a speech about how unworthy he is. He never gets to finish it. "While he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son." The father was running before the speech was over.

He doesn't come running because you called the right way. He comes running because you called.
