He Remembers That You're Dust

He Remembers That You're Dust

Yesterday's finale closed out the arc. Today, let's sit with the verse that's been underneath all five days: "He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities" (Psalm 103:10).

The Tank Misconception

Here's a belief a lot of us carry without saying out loud: God's patience is like a tank. Every time we fall, it drains a little more. Every time we go back to the same thing, the gauge drops. Somewhere out there is the failure that finally empties it.

That belief is why the chances start to feel used up. It's why the hundredth confession feels so much harder than the first.

Read the Verses Around It

Psalm 103:10 doesn't stand alone. It sits in the middle of David's description of who God is, and every line pushes against the tank.

Verse 8: "The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love."

Verse 9: "He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever."

Verse 12: "As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us."

Verse 13: "As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him."

"Abounding" means overflowing — the opposite of a tank running low.

What He Remembers

Then comes verse 14: "For he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust."

Notice what God remembers. Not your sins — verse 12 already told you where those went. He remembers that you're dust. He remembers how fragile you are, how often you'll fall, and how much you need Him.

He's not surprised by your weakness. He's not keeping a tally of it. He's a Father with compassion on His children.

Sit With This

What would change if you really believed God remembers your frailty, not your failures?

Hold that question up against the list you tore up on Thursday. He doesn't keep score. He never did.
