You've received the gift. You've said the only word that fits.
But here's what surprises you: the table isn't only about remembering.
Remembered, Not Present
Communion is, by Jesus' own words, an act of remembrance. So it's understandable that a lot of us slowly start relating to Him mostly through memory — the cross back then, the resurrection back then, the history we believe and honor.
Here's the misconception that grows out of that: Jesus becomes someone we remember instead of someone who's here. And worship becomes singing about Him instead of welcoming Him.
Risen and Reigning
"The Lord Is Here" won't let worship stay in the past tense. "He's riding on our praise, He's risen and He reigns. We welcome You, King of Glory."
Notice the verb: welcome. You don't welcome a memory. You welcome someone who's arriving — or who's already in the room.
And the song makes room for whatever you walked in carrying: "If you got burdens, lay 'em all down. If you got praises, then let 'em all out. You can be silent or you can raise a shout." Present tense. Real Person. Real room.
Bought With a Price
Then the song turns and looks around: "We are the body, we are the bride, we are His people bought with a price. We are the church of Jesus Christ."
That's not decoration. It's a theological claim straight out of 1 Corinthians 6:20 — "you were bought at a price." The same blood that set the table in Chapter One purchased the people sitting around it. Which means the people in the row next to you aren't strangers attending the same event. They're family, bought by the same sacrifice.
Jesus put it simply in Matthew 18:20: "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them." Not "there you will remember Me." There am I.
Anything Can Happen
The song's bridge is a single line repeated until it sinks in: "The Lord is here, so anything can happen."
That's the shift this position asks for. Not just remembering what He did — expecting what He's doing, here, now, among His people. It isn't just your table. It's a family's. And He's at it.
