I Used to Think Letting Go Meant Giving Up

I used to think letting go of control meant I was giving up.

For years after my diagnosis, I gripped the timeline of my own ministry like it was the one thing keeping it alive. If I didn't push hard enough, fast enough, the window would close before PPA took the rest of my voice. That fear ran everything.

What changed wasn't the diagnosis getting better. It was me getting tired of carrying both the ministry and the fear at the same time, and finally setting the fear down on the altar — not the ministry, the fear about the ministry. I told God He could have the timeline. I'd keep showing up; He could keep the calendar.

What happened next wasn't faster. It was better. Doors opened in an order I never would have planned — the app, the community, my own kids stepping into this work with me — none of it on the schedule I was white-knuckling. Abundantly more, on His clock instead of mine.

If you're gripping a timeline this week, I'm not telling you to stop showing up. I'm telling you the fear about the timeline is the thing that needs to go on the altar — not your faithfulness.

Has fear ever made you grip something that wasn't actually yours to control in the first place?
