Once the throne is empty, something has to happen to the version of you that used to sit on it.
Seth Schueter doesn't ease into this one. He declares it: "That was me till I met You. You gave me a life brand new... so I'm singing bye bye bye. Oh goodbye to my old self. I left you in the rearview."
This is the position where surrender stops being a private posture and becomes a spoken fact. The old self — the one that measured safety by how tightly it could hold on — doesn't get repaired. It gets buried, and buried things get a funeral, not a quiet fade-out.
And what follows the goodbye matters just as much: "Hello to my freedom... hello to my Savior." This position isn't just subtraction. It's an actual trade — the old identity handed over, a new one received in its place, both spoken out loud so there's no quiet slide back into the old pattern.
2 Corinthians 5:17 says if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come — the old has gone, the new is here. Not eventually. Already.
