The Mountain In Front of Me

The Mountain In Front of Me

What mountain are you standing at the foot of right now?

Not a metaphor. Not a sermon illustration. The actual thing — the diagnosis, the marriage, the grief that hasn't lifted, the prayer you've prayed so many times you know it by heart.

Tauren Wells opens this arc by naming both sides at once. "I've walked among the shadows. You wiped my tears away. And I've felt the pain of heartbreak. And I've seen the brighter days." He doesn't pretend the valley isn't real. He's been in it. He's prayed prayers to heaven from his lowest place.

This is THE MOUNTAIN IN FRONT OF ME — the position where the arc begins. Not with the resolution. Not with the breakthrough. With the honest naming of what's actually in front of you.

"On the mountains, I will bow my life to the One who set me there. In the valley, I will lift my eyes to the One who sees me there."

That's not a contradiction. That's the whole point. He's God of both. Not just the mountain you want to be standing on. The valley you're actually standing in.

"When I'm standing on the mountain, I didn't get there on my own. When I'm walking through the valley, I know I am not alone."

Before this journey can go anywhere, you have to be honest about which one you're in right now.
