THE OLD VOICE, THE NEW VOICE (Experiential Activity)

THE OLD VOICE, THE NEW VOICE (Experiential Activity)

This week's experiential activity takes five minutes. And it might be the strangest thing you do all week — in a good way.

Record yourself.

Pull out your phone. Open the voice memo app. And record two things, back to back.

First — say the old voice out loud. The handed-down one. Use one of these as a starting line, or let it trigger your own version:

"I'm behind. I should have figured this out by now."
"He's watching, and He's not impressed."
"One more mistake and I've used up the grace."
"I have to earn my way back into good standing."

Pick the one that sounds most like your own head — or say your own version of it. Don't soften it. Say it the way it actually sounds when you're alone and not performing for anyone.

Then — without stopping the recording — say the new one. "I am who You say I am. Not servant. Friend." Say John 15:15 out loud. Say it like you mean it, even if part of you is still convincing yourself.

Now play it back.

Listen to both voices, one after the other, in your own voice.

Notice which one sounds more like a performance — and which one sounds more like the truth trying to land.

You don't have to share the recording with anyone. But keep it. And this week — when the old voice gets loud — play the second half back. Let your own voice remind you what's actually true.
