The Unfinished Speech: An Activity for This Week

The Unfinished Speech: An Activity for This Week

This week's CHANCE AFTER CHANCE arc is built to be experienced, not just read or watched. Here's an activity for Position 3, THE PORCH, that turns today's teaching into something you actually do.

Write the Speech

Grab a piece of paper. Write down the speech you've been rehearsing for God — the one you've been planning to give once you're ready to come back.

You probably know it already. It might sound like "Once I get my life together, then I'll…" or "I know I'm not worthy, but if You'll just let me…" or "I promise this time will be different."

Write all of it. Every condition, every promise, every plan to earn your way back onto the property.

Wait for the Bridge

Press play on "A Forgiving God" by SEU Worship. Keep writing if you need to. When the song reaches the bridge — the part about a Father who's been on the porch watching for you, then running out to meet you — stop.

Cross It Out

Draw a line through everything after your first sentence.

Here's why. In Luke 15, the son had a three-part speech planned: "Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants" (verses 18-19). But when he actually gets home, he only gets through the first two parts (verse 21). He never gets to the "hired servant" line. The father was already running, already embracing him, already calling for a robe.

Under your crossed-out speech, write two words: He ran.

Do This Along With Us

If you're catching up on this week's arc, Chapters 1 and 2 are linked below. Once you've done it, comment "HE RAN." What your speech said can stay between you and Him.
