This Week's Challenge: Say It Different

This Week's Challenge: Say It Different

Every week on The JDOT Five comes with a challenge — something small, specific, and doable, meant to take the week's arc out of the realm of "nice idea" and into something you actually practice.

This Week: Say It Different

This week's challenge is simple to name and harder to actually do: pick one specific pattern in your life — a real one, not a vague "I struggle with anxiety" — the exact thing that makes your mind reach for "here we go again" with a sigh before you've even confirmed it's happening. Spend this week naming it plainly, instead of letting it stay a vague dread in the background.

Why Specificity Matters

It's easy to say, in general, "I brace for things too much." It's a different thing entirely to name the exact repeat — the specific message you dread, the specific tone in someone's voice, the specific number on the specific screen — and ask honestly: is my bracing actually protecting me from anything, or just exhausting me in advance?

How to Start

Pick one pattern. It doesn't need to be resolved yet — you don't need to have already stopped bracing to start naming it. You just need to be honest enough to name one. This week, we'll be checking in on this challenge twice more — once midweek, and once as we close out the theme on Saturday.
