Trust Doesn't Wait for Understanding to Show Up First

Trust Doesn't Wait for Understanding to Show Up First

Proverbs 3:5-6 says: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight."

A Verse About Sequence

It would be easy to read this as advice for after you've got things figured out — trust God once your understanding is settled and your plan makes sense. But that's not what the verse says. The sequence is reversed.

Correcting a Common Misconception

A lot of people carry, without ever quite naming it, the belief that trust is supposed to follow understanding — you get the plan clear first, and then you're able to hand it over in good conscience. Proverbs 3:5-6 corrects that order entirely. Trust comes first. Leaning on your own understanding is exactly the thing you're told to set down, not the prerequisite for trusting.

The Same Claim as "Trust in Him"

This is exactly what yesterday's Position 2 song, "Trust in Him," described too: "There is nothing that matters more than Him, oh, I am nothing without Him... cause nobody else can wash my sin." Not "trust Him once you understand your own mess well enough." Trust in Him instead of your own understanding of the mess.

For This Week

If you're naming a pattern you brace for as part of this week's challenge, this verse is a good place to test it: are you waiting to trust until you understand the outcome? That might be exactly the order this verse is asking you to reverse.
