Trust Isn't a Reward for Getting Yourself Together First

Trust Isn't a Reward for Getting Yourself Together First

You named the grip yesterday — how much it was costing you, how little it was actually controlling. Today's the part most people get backwards.

A Common but Quiet Assumption

A lot of people carry, without ever naming it, the belief that trust has to be earned back. That you have to get the plan under control, clean up the mess, prove you're stable enough — and only then are you allowed to actually trust God with the outcome.

"Trust in Him" pushes back on that directly: "When I tried following my desires, I knew I couldn't outrun all the fires that came from putting pride on my name. So I love Jesus with all my heart, there is nothing that matters more than Him, oh, I am nothing without Him... cause nobody else can wash my sin."

Not Earned. Washed.

Notice the verb. Not "earned back." Washed. Trust in Him isn't a status you qualify for once you've fixed enough of yourself first — it's the only thing that was ever going to actually clean what you couldn't clean on your own.

And the proof this song points to isn't abstract: "Oh, Hell started laughin', but it turned to fear when the stone rolled away, and He rose from the grave." The resurrection is the evidence that the outcome was never dependent on your own strength holding it together.

What Proverbs Already Said

Proverbs 3:5-6 makes the same claim in older language: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." Not "trust Him once your understanding is sorted out." Instead of it, not in addition to having it figured out first.

The Rescue Was Never Your Steering

This is the turn this position asks you to make: the rescue you've been white-knuckling toward was never actually dependent on your own management of it. "This good news is for you, you don't have to stay stuck in the mess you made, just trust in Him today."
