Why This Week Needed Six Songs: The Plus One, Set Free

Most weeks, The JDOT Five is five songs. This week, it's six.

Here's why.

The arc from JUST GET TO TOMORROW to SO MUCH TO BE THANKFUL FOR doesn't fully resolve at five. Gratitude is real and it's earned — but it isn't the whole story. There's a look-back moment this arc needed, and it couldn't come before now. You can't declare freedom from something while you're still drowning in it.

The Plus One: \"Set Me Free\" — God Behind Bars/Ryan Ellis.

This song was recorded by an artist singing from actual incarceration — chains that were literal, not metaphorical. And that's exactly why it belongs here as the benediction, not the headline. Because once you look back over everything this week's arc walked through — the small prayers, the mess you'd stopped calling captivity because you'd been carrying it so long it just felt like weight — you realize gratitude wasn't the end of the story.

Freedom was.

\"They can lock me up and throw away the key. You can have the world, 'cause I got Heaven's peace.\" That's not a metaphor for a bad week. That's the real, weighable cost of what it means to actually be free regardless of circumstance.

Look back at where SO MUCH BIGGER started. JUST GET TO TOMORROW. Small prayers. A mess you didn't even call captivity.

It's gone. Not managed. Gone.
